funny me

I just realized that in at least the last two blog entries I have apologized for not blogging regularly. Should I apologize for my repetitive apologizing?

drama i didn't need...

I know it's been some time since I have blogged. To those out there that have been checking in on me, please accept my apologies. Over the last 2 months or so I just haven't felt "moved" or even felt like anything blogworthy has happened in my life. Up until yesterday it has been life as usual -- or as usual as my life is.
No matter how old children get, mothers will never stop worrying about them. I live in a teeny-tiny town where everybody knows everybody and everything about everybody. That may sound incredibly irritating to some of you, but to others it can be a comfort. It's nice to know that I can rely on that old saying "it takes a village to raise a child". I know my children's best interests are at heart when I answer the phone and a local citizen is on the other end asking me if I was aware my son is at the park playing ball with other kids that aren't...well...as well parented...as he is. I can sigh quietly and say "yes, i do...thank you for watching out for him".
So yesterday when I couldn't find my child, and no one I called had seen or heard from him, I began to get a bit panicked..to say the least. I knew he had Beta practice (Beta is a school club of sorts that one can only be in if a certain grade average is maintained) after school from 3-4. I had gone to the school at 3 to pick up the girlchild. Normally her brother will walk her here to my office, and then he will walk on to our house. (he's 14...fully capable of being home alone...if u r turning up your nose at me, gtfoi) I get off work at 4:30, giving the boychild plenty of time to walk home from practice. So the girlchild and I arrive at the house around 4:40 and my son is not there. Nor has he been there. (I can tell by the way our dog is frantically tap dancing on the floor because he hasn't been let out to pee all day) I re-check the notice sent home by the Beta teacher as to the time of practice. I was correct. 3-4pm. I call his friend that lives 2 houses down...hasn't seen my child since school. Another call goes out to another friend, same reply. I get back in my vehicle and drive to the school to see if possibly practice ran over...no sign of life by this time at the school. The girlchild, having even more of a worrying nature than I do, starts to fret. I have to console her and remain calm on the exterior, while inside my chest my heart is starting to beat so hard and so rapidly I feel like it will burst thru my rib cage at any moment. I call his grandparents to see if they have seen him. The answer is no. I head back to the house to look up the Beta teacher's home number and call her. No answer. I call another neighborhood friend of his. Not there, hasn't seen him. So I call his father's cell phone. I know his father is at work still. Besides, he didn't answer his cell phone anyway. So I call his work number. I get him on the phone and ask if he has heard from the boychild. In his rush of work he basically blows me off after telling me no. Then he asks "what's wrong?" I had already told him all the calls and the search I had made and he asks me what's wrong... I nearly lost it. In my most frantic mother's voice I said "WHAT'S WRONG?! WHAT'S WRONG?! I CAN'T FIND MY CHILD! THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG! DOES THIS NOT CONCERN YOU?!" It is then that he realizes the seriousness of the situation, or at least the state of mind I'm in. He offers to leave work just as soon as he can get out of there to help me in my search. Gee thanks...what a guy!
Just as I pick up the phone, on the verge of calling out the guards, a familiar vehicle pulls up in my driveway. I fly out the front door and the driver, says "were u worried?" WELL YES HELL YES I WAS WORRIED! WTF DO U THINK?! My child was supposed to be home over an hour ago. She apologized, didn't realize what time it had gotten to be. "she" being the mother of another friend of the boychild. She had offered to take him and a few other boys home, only she stopped by the library before bringing my child. WHEW! My son will have a cell phone of his very own by this weekend.
So that was my drama. I know all you other mothers out there can relate.

As for anything else over the last few months, nothing much. I turned 35 in January. Spent my birthday in Florida with my sister and her family. I got my hair cut. About a foot off the length. Over this past weekend I taught myself how to do my own french manicure. That's about it. Pretty boring I know. I'll settle for boring...as long as I know exactly where my kids are every minute of the day.
